Woman, Badly Beaten, Succumbs To Injuries

ST. THOMAS — A woman who was found badly beaten and unconscious in Contant in the vicinity of the former Mitchel Motel, an abandoned building, has died of injuries sustained in her head, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced Tuesday.

Ms. Freeman, citing a police report, said the incident occurred on Monday, and upon notification, police were immediately dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in reference to the assault victim.

Upon officers arrival, contact was made with the physician on duty, who told police that the victim appeared to have sustained trauma to the head and suffered brain injury. Officers were unable to gather any information from the victim due to the severity of her injuries, according to Ms. Freeman.

On Tuesday, officers received notification that the victim had succumbed to her injuries. She was identified by next of kin as Nyla Peele, 47.

Ms. Freeman said police have been working to gather more details, but there was no information at time of writing relative to a suspect or suspects who may have been involved in the assault incident. All police had at time of writing was that a female victim had been beaten badly on Monday, and succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.
