News / Virgin Islands / July 19, 2017

ST. CROIX — Police are in search of a black Toyota Corolla that struck and killed a 47-year-old woman on the Melvin Evans Highway on Tuesday night, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte.

According to Mr. Dratte, on Tuesday at about 7:42 p.m., citizens phoned the 911 emergency call center in reference to a female victim that had been struck by a vehicle on the Melvin H. Evans Highway.

Upon the arrival of officers to the scene, they met an unresponsive female lying lifeless on the road. She was later identified by next of kin as Marie Luz Rivera, 47, who had succumbed to the injuries sustained after she was struck by the vehicle. She was transported to the morgue at the Juan F. Luis Hospital, according to Mr. Dratte.

The incident occurred on the west bound lane on the highway adjacent to the Harvey Housing Community, according to Mr. Dratte.

But the person driving the vehicle that struck Ms. Rivera did not stop. Police are asking the community, as well as auto mechanic or body shops, to immediately report any black Toyota Corolla that has exterior damage, by calling the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, or 911.
