ST. THOMAS — The V.I.P.D. today said that it arrested a man said to have stabbed another man to death.
Recounting the incident, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte said that on Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 1:50 p.m., a citizen reported to the 911 emergency call center that someone had been stabbed near the back street close to Gutte’s Gade.
At the time, detectives made contact with a male individual at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, who was admitted with puncture wounds to his chest area, according to Mr. Dratte. The male victim stated that he was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown female, when a male the victim knows as “Herbie”, approached him and assaulted him by stabbing him.
The male victim, who later succumbed to his wounds, was identified as 50-year-old Ronald Kern of Estate Bellevue. The case was upgraded to a homicide with the passing of Mr. Kern, according to Mr. Dratte.
Today police arrested Robert “Herbie” Moore near General Gade. He was then transported to the Bureau of Corrections, where he admitted to stabbing Mr. Kern. Mr. Moore however, alleged that the stabbing was in self-defense.
Mr. Moore was charged with first-degree murder, and first and third-degree assault, according to Mr. Dratte. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
