Police Make Arrest In Stabbing-Related Homicide

Crime / Virgin Islands / July 18, 2017

ST. THOMAS — The V.I.P.D. today said that it arrested a man said to have stabbed another man to death.

Recounting the incident, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte said that on Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 1:50 p.m., a citizen reported to the 911 emergency call center that someone had been stabbed near the back street close to Gutte’s Gade.

At the time, detectives made contact with a male individual at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, who was admitted with puncture wounds to his chest area, according to Mr. Dratte. The male victim stated that he was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown female, when a male the victim knows as “Herbie”, approached him and assaulted him by stabbing him.

The male victim, who later succumbed to his wounds, was identified as 50-year-old Ronald Kern of Estate Bellevue. The case was upgraded to a homicide with the passing of Mr. Kern, according to Mr. Dratte.

Today police arrested Robert “Herbie” Moore near General Gade. He was then transported to the Bureau of Corrections, where he admitted to stabbing Mr. Kern. Mr. Moore however, alleged that the stabbing was in self-defense.

Mr. Moore was charged with first-degree murder, and first and third-degree assault, according to Mr. Dratte. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
