ST. CROIX — The man who died during a car accident at the Mon Bijou traffic lights intersection on Thursday night has been identified by police as 28-year-old Kaleem McFarlande, who lived in Estate Glynn, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Friday.
According to preliminary information provided to Mr. Dratte by the V.I.P.D.’s traffic division along with witnesses on the scene, at about 7:35 p.m., a white Toyota Corolla traveling from south to north, whose driver had the right of way because the traffic lights in her direction were green, was struck by a fast-moving green Chevrolet Cavalier that ran the stoplights coming from west heading east. The Cavalier then spun out of control and slammed into the traffic lights pole, according to Mr. Dratte.
Mr. McFarlande died on the scene of the accident, according to Mr. Dratte. He was pronounced dead by emergency personnel on the scene — among them V.I. Fire Service, St. Croix Rescue, EMS and the V.I.P.D.
The individual who drove the white Corolla heading north from south, a female victim, sustained non life-threatening injuries, Mr. Dratte said.
