Carambola Resort Employees Thwart Armed Robbery Attempt

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / August 18, 2017

ST. CROIX — An armed robbery attempt on Thursday morning at the Carambola Beach Resort and Spa was thwarted by three of the hotel’s employees, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Thursday.

According to Mr. Dratte, at approximately 11:41 a.m. Thursday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of an attempted robbery at the Carambola Beach Resort Hotel, located in Estate Davis Bay.

Upon arrival to the scene, the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives made contact with a Carambola employee, who stated that she was in the office speaking with a male employee, when a male individual wearing a mask came into the office with what appeared to be a firearm, demanding money.

According to Mr. Dratte, the male employee got into a struggle with the suspect. The female employee then locked herself in the office and called 911. A third employee came and the suspect fled the area on foot. Mr. Dratte said no one was injured during the incident and no money or items were taken from the resort.
