GERS Announces ‘Slight’ Delay In Retirement Checks, Says Direct Deposits Not Affected

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / August 30, 2017

The Government Employees Retirement System (G.E.R.S.) on Wednesday announced a delay in payment for retirees receiving their annuity payment via check. Retirees who receive their payment via ACH/direct deposit should not experience a delay, G.E.R.S. said.

The pension system said the delay is due to technical difficulties currently being experienced with the check processing system, which will also prevent any retiree from accessing their check stubs online via www.usvigers.com. Apparently, the same problem affected G.E.R.S. five months ago.

“Please note that retirees who requested changes to become effective August 31, 2017, will not see those changes until pay date September 15, 2017,” reads the release.

G.E.R.S. says it appreciates the understanding of retirees as it works diligently to rectify the matter as soon as possible. G.E.R.S. also apologized for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
