Two Shot Dead In St. Thomas And St. Croix Shootings On Thursday

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / September 14, 2017

Two men were shot dead in separate shootings that occurred on different islands today, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced in press releases.

The first incident, which occurred during the morning time of Thursday, left a man identified as Alex Camacho, 27, dead.

According to Mr. Dratte, the 911 emergency call center received a call of shots being discharged in the Castle Coakley area at 7:00 a.m. Upon officers arrival to the scene, they observed an unresponsive Hispanic male individual with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to Mr. Dratte, a preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Camacho was walking on his way to work when the incident occurred.

Then, at approximately 4:45 p.m., residents called 911 and reported that someone was shot in the rear of Giant Gas in Estate Thomas, according to Mr. Dratte.

By the time investigators from the Major Crimes Unit arrived to the scene, the victim was being examined by EMTs and was subsequently transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Medical Center by ambulance. The victim later succumbed to his injuries sustained from the gunshot wound. He was identified by next of kin as Elroy Rieara. The V.I.P.D. did not release the victim’s age.

Mr. Dratte said both cases are under investigation by police. If you have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, call 340-778-4950 on St. Croix, or 340-774-2211 on St. Thomas. If you wish to receive a payday for your tip, contact Crime Stoppers USVI, where the information you give remains anonymous.
