US Postal Service Closed Friday; VA Employees Required To Report To Duty

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / September 22, 2017

Here are some community updates following Hurricane Maria’s passage in the USVI:

There will be no mail services in the USVI or in Puerto Rico on Friday, Sept 22, the Postal Service announced late Thursday.

“The safety of our employees and our customers is paramount as we work towards solutions that will permit restoration of mail service. No postal employees are to report to work on Friday as vital assessments of postal infrastructure and employee headcounts continue to take place,” said U.S.P.S.

Postal employees are asked to check-in with their status using either 1-888 hotline, option 5 or *new* WHATSAPP / 978-761-0380. One check-in for this storm event by each postal employee in the Caribbean District is requested.

The VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) Emergency Management officials hereby announce that all employees are required to report tomorrow (Friday, September 22) to a regular working day. Be prepared to stay overnight, should you be requested to. The workforce that have stayed at the Medical Center throughout the emergency caused by Hurricane Maria need to return home to rest and provide comfort to their families. We need your commitment and solidarity which will allow us to continue compliance with our mission to provide the best healthcare to our veterans.

Frederiksted Healthcare sustained some damage during Hurricane Maria, but the facility plans to reopen on Monday.

Governor Kenneth Mapp is allowing businesses to open on Friday between the hours of 12 noon and 4:00 p.m.
