ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Police Department has reported multiple criminal incidents that occurred in St. Thomas in the past few days, one involving a domestic issue, another involving an assault, and a third incident involving second-degree aggravated rape, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.
On Thursday afternoon in St. Thomas, a woman stated that she left her home in the New Hernhut community to meet her male friend. As she and her friend were walking, however, the woman said she noticed her husband operating a vehicle heading directly to her and her friend.
The wife stated that she leaped out of the way to avoid being struck by her husband’s vehicle, but the vehicle wound up striking her male friend, who received treatment at the Schneider Regional Medical Center for broken bone injuries.
The suspect, seen above, was identified as Claude Lesperance, 37. In accordance with the territory’s domestic violence laws, Mr. Lesperance was not granted bail, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
Man assaulted with vehicle, crowbar
On Saturday at about 9:30 p.m., a resident called the 911 emergency call center to report an assault that occurred in the Estate Honduras area in St. Thomas. The resident said he witnessed what appeared to be a vehicle intentionally striking a man, knocking him down to the ground.
The witness said a male suspect then exited the passenger’s side of the vehicle and started assaulting the male victim about his body with what appeared to be a crowbar, while the victim was still on the ground. While the suspect was assaulting the victim, he was also asking the victim for money ostensibly owed to him.
The witness said another witness in the area intervened by telling the suspect to stop assaulting the victim. The suspect then went into the vehicle that he had exited and left the area.
The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to Mr. Dratte.
Man arrested for aggravated rape after impregnating minor
Police on Saturday arrested a 33-year-old man in relation to an Oct. 9 case, when a father reported that his 15-year-old minor daughter was impregnated by an adult male.
Officers traveled to Estate Wintberg in St. Thomas today and made contact with the suspect, identified as Akiel Mack (police did not provide a mugshot). Mr. Mack admitted to having sex with the 15-year-old, and was charged with second-degree aggravated rape, and second-degree unlawful sexual contact.
He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
