ST. THOMAS — A man was caught by police while burglarizing the Medical Foundation in St. Thomas, a facility hosting a variety of medical practices here, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte made known late Monday.
According to Mr. Dratte, on Sunday at about 7:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to a burglary at the medical facility, and upon their arrival, discovered that one of the western glass windows had been broken. Officers also noticed that the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Derek Person, was still in the building.
Mr. Person was placed under arrest and transported to the Richards Callwood Command, where he was turned over to the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
He was advised of his Constitutional rights, which he waived and decided to give police a statement, admitting that he had indeed broken into the Medical Foundation building through one of the facility’s western glass windows, according to Mr. Dratte.
Mr. Person was charged with third-degree burglary. Unable to make bail of $25,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
