ST. CROIX — In a move to augment the ongoing electrical restoration effort, the Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority on Monday entered into contract with a St. Croix company, Special Spaces, Inc., to provide project management support to WAPA’s team, the utility announced Wednesday.
Well-known engineer, company vice-president and former Mapp administration Public Works commissioner, Gustav James, will lead the company’s work in support of the restoration effort with an emphasis on St. Croix, WAPA said.
According to WAPA, special Spaces will focus on electric service restoration, debris removal and the reinstallation of LED street lights. The authority has begun to reinstall street lights along the major thoroughfares of the territory once those areas are energized. Street lighting contributes to making roads safer for motorists and pedestrians at night and provide a sense of the islands returning to normalcy, according to the release.
