A resolution to honor Virgin Islander and NBA legend Tim Duncan was among over 24 measures approved during a Senate session on Wednesday. The Senate also took override action and approved zoning measures.

Every single item on the agenda was approved and forwarded to Governor Kenneth Mapp for further consideration.

Senators unanimously voted to approve the resolution honoring Mr. Duncan for his professional career, accomplishments and philanthropic efforts after Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the territory in September 2017. A resolution to honor William Bohlke, Jr. for his assistance during the storms and his contributions to the community with business and philanthropic deeds, was also approved.

“During the darkest hours, Bohlke gave the community an opportunity to travel through air flights,” said Senator Myron Jackson.

“Tim Duncan was awarded the highest medal of honor in the Virgin Islands. His work and contributions to the territory are widespread,” said Senator Janette Millin Young. “Post-Hurricane Irma, he donated palettes of food, generators and reached out to the world through national publications drawing awareness to the devastation of the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Lawmakers voted favorably for two zoning requests: Bill No. 32-0299- Report on Petition to Amend Official Map No. SCZ-12 and 17 Application No. ZAC-18-6, and Bill No. 32-0302- Report on Petition to Amend Official Zoning Map No. SCZ-12 Application No. ZAC-18-5.

Regarding the FY 2019 budget appropriations bills, senators approved all the measures. The breakdown of the budget season process was as follows: Initially, lawmakers vetted each bill throughout prior committee hearings. Upon completion of the vetting process, lawmakers engaged in the markup, a line by line review of each measure in which the FY 2019 budget for the Government of the Virgin Islands was ultimately determined, according to the VI Legislature.

Lawmakers voted and approved the following:

  • Bill No. 32-0299 – Report on Petition to Amend Official Map No. SCZ-12 and 17 Application No. ZAC-18-6 Petition of VIGL Operations, LLC (Authorized agent to amend Official Zoning Map Nos. SCZ12 and 17 from P (Public) and I-1 (Heavy Industry) to P (Parcel No. 4B Estate Bethlehem Middle Works, Kings Quarter, St. Croix.
  • Bill No. 32-03202 – Report on Petition to Amend Official Zoning Map No. SCZ-12 Application No. ZAC-18-5 Petition of Hubert H. Watty, MD requesting that a use variance be granted to R-2 (Residential Low Density One and Two Family) zoned Plot No. 6 Estate Clifton Hill, Kings Quarter, St. Croix.
  • Bill No. 32-0267 – An Act making appropriation for the operation of the Government of the Virgin Islands during fiscal year October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule) Bill No. 32-0268 – An Act appropriating money from the Anti-litter and Beautification Fund to the Waste Management Authority for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0269 – An Act providing for the operating expenses of the Virgin Islands Board of Education from the General Fund of the Government of the Virgin Islands during the fiscal year October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0270 – An Act providing an appropriation for operating expenses of the Business and Commercial Properties Revolving Fund of the Government of the Virgin Island during the fiscal year October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2018 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0271 – An Act providing an appropriation from the Caribbean Basin Initiative Fund for fiscal year October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018 (Closed Rule) Bill No. 32-0272 – An Act providing an appropriation for operating expenses of the Virgin Islands Career and Technical Education Board from the General Fund of the Government of the Virgin Islands during the fiscal year October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0265 – A Resolution honoring Mr. Timothy Theodore Duncan for his professional career accomplishments and his proven dedication to the restoration of the Virgin Islands through philanthropic efforts and to name the New Sports Complex on St. Croix in his name
  • Bill No. 32-0264 – An Act honoring and commending William Bohlke, Jr. for his assistance in the introduction of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Hurricane Hunters, as well as his numerous contributions toward the Virgin Islands through business and philanthropic efforts
  • Bill No. 32-0273 – An Act appropriating money for salaries and expenses of the Board of Elections and the Offices of the Supervisor of Elections for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0274 – An Act appropriating funds from the Government Insurance Fund for operating expenses of the Department of Finance and the Department of Labor for fiscal year ending September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0275 – An Act providing for the lump sum appropriation from the Health Revolving Fund for fiscal year October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
  • Bill No. 32-0276 – An Act providing appropriations for operating expenses of the Hospital and Health Facilities Corporation from the General Fund of the Government of the Virgin Islands during fiscal year October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 (Closed Rule)
