Man Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times Near Grove Place Ballpark

Crime / Virgin Islands / October 21, 2018

A man succumbed to gunshot wounds at the Juan F. Luis Hospital on Saturday night after being shot multiple times in his lower body near the Estate Grove Place Ballpark, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Sunday.

According to Mr. Dratte, police responded to the incident after the 911 emergency call center was notified of the shooting via phone call at about 7:23 p.m.

Officials were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate, Mr. Dratte said. Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive black male lying face down in an alley between the Grove Place Ballpark and a residence, with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body.

Though the victim was unresponsive, he was still alive, Mr. Dratte said. He was then hustled to the Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance, where he was operated on. He did not survive, however.

The victim was identified by next of kin as Daniel D. Peters, 33.

The V.I.P.D’s Criminal Investigation Bureau is asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact CIB 340-778-2211, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
