Bryan Heads To Washington For Meetings With Plaskett And Congressional Leaders, Trump Administration Officials

Governor-elect Albert Bryan, Jr. will visit Washington, D.C. this week to meet with Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett, along with Congressional leaders, and Trump administration officials, Mr. Bryan’s transition team announced via release Monday.

Since announcing the leadership of his transition team during a press conference on Nov. 28, Mr. Bryan has met with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for an initial briefing on the hurricane recovery efforts in the territory, and with the financial advisors of the current administration, according to the release. Mr. Bryan made the selfsame announcements during an interview with The Consortium’s Ernice Gilbert Wednesday.

“Last week I met with Governor Mapp’s financial team and with FEMA officials for initial briefings on the financial state of the territory and updates on the ongoing recovery and rebuilding effort. It is clear the challenges that lie ahead for the territory, and our transi-tion assessment teams are hard at work identifying the vulnerabilities. They will provide the Bryan-Roach administration with their analyses which we will consider in our imme-diate actions to address these and other issues,” he said.

“I am looking forward to meeting with our Delegate to Congress and other Congressional leaders this week and with key administration officials to not only continue working on the hurricane recovery, but also to begin a working relationship with our administration, Congress, and The White House,” Mr. Bryan added.

The Democratic governor and Ms. Plaskett will host a joint press conference on Dec. 11 to discuss the federal government’s ongoing role in the hurricane recovery efforts and the governor-elect’s meetings in Washington, D.C., according to the release.

Mr. Bryan and Ms. Plaskett will also discuss how the governor-elect’s incoming administration and the congresswoman’s office will work together with the incoming Congress on policies beneficial to the people of the Virgin Islands.

In addition to meeting with FEMA officials on St. Croix last week, Mr. Bryan also met with officials at Limetree Bay Terminals and the students and staff of the Claude O. Markoe Elementary School in Frederiksted, according to the release.

“Rebuilding our schools is central to our work in continuing the recovery is a high priority for our incoming administration, and we will remain proactive in our efforts to establish a relationship with administrators, teachers, and parents in assessing the real needs of our learning infrastructure and the needs of our students,” he said. “Similarly, remaining proactive in our partnership with Limetree Bay is critical to ensuring not only our economy maximizes its benefit from a refinery restart but also the health and safety of the residents of St. Croix and our natural resources remain a high priority of our incoming administration.”
