The official results of the St. Croix District Primary Elections for 2014 are now available to the public after a long wait.
The results remained unchanged, however, as gubernatorial candidate and primary election winner Donna M. Christensen, our current Delegate to Congress, racked up a total of 1,608 votes on St. Croix, adding 184 absentee votes to her grand total. The prior total was 1,424.
The Donastorg-Torres ticket ended with 1,161 votes, collecting 78 additional absentee votes to make up their grand total. The prior aggregate was 1,083.
The Delegate to Congress race also remained unchanged as Attorney Stacey Plaskett totaled 2,594 votes on St. Croix, helped by 222 absentee votes. Her previous total was 2,372. Senator Shawn-Michael Malone, Plaskett’s closest competitor, received a total of 1,724 votes on St. Croix and former Senator Emmett Hansen ended with 587 votes.
Senate Race
In the Senate race the top vote-getters held on sturdily to their spot, with current principal of Arthur Richards Junior High School Kurt Vialet hauling in a grand total of 3,184 votes after he received an additional 288 absentee votes. On the night of August 2nd, he had collected 2,896 votes.
Former Police Commissioner Novel Francis also ended stronger than he did on election night, garnering a grand total of 2,970 votes after receiving 254 absentee votes. Previously his total stood at 2,716.
The remaining winners’ positions remained unchanged, with incumbent Senator Kenneth Gittens, former Senator Neville James, incumbent Senator Sammuel Sanes, newcomer Malcolm McGregor and incumbent Senator Diane Capehart coming in third, fourth, fifth, six and seventh respectively.
Diane Capehart, who lead eighth-place finisher Paul Arnold Jr. by a mere 30 votes before the official results, added 7 more to her lead, helped by 140 absentee votes, ending with an official total of 1,473. Arnold’s official total amounted to 1,436.
