In the wake of a shocking report released on Sunday of troubling practices at St. Croix’s Juan F. Luis Hospital, some good news has emerged from the island’s healthcare sector. Frederiksted Health Care, Inc. has been awarded a $204,350 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to expand services at the Ingeborg Nesbitt Clinic, according to an announcement Monday from Congresswoman Donna Christensen’s office.
The funding is made possible through the federal Health Care Cluster grant program and is considered supplemental funding. Its objective is to provide for “expanded and sustained national investment in health centers funded under section 330 of the Public Health Service Act,” according to the statement.
The Act is designed to expand the current safety net nationally by creating new access points to health services and supporting increased services at existing health centers.
