The Lower Love Gas Station on St. Croix was robbed by two armed suspects Saturday at 7 p.m., leaving the gas station owner wounded by gunfire. One suspect is in police custody and the other is on the loose, police spokesperson Melody Rames has revealed.
According to Deputy Chief Arthur Hector, Sr., the two men entered the service station, threatened the business owner and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, the suspects shot the owner and fled the scene. The injured victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for care. Police did not say if the suspect on the loose got away with money.
Police have apprehend one of the two suspects, and are currently searching for the second gunman.
The Lower Love incident is the second armed robbery and shooting in St. Croix on Saturday, happening only hours after a shootout in Sunny Isle, where police shot two armed suspects who were attempting to rob the Cleopatra Gift Shop. There were four suspects involved in the Sunny Isle incident, including three minors–the youngest being 14-years-old–and one adult. All of the suspects in that case were apprehended by police.
The Lower Love Gas Station crime is being investigated by detectives in the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
