A man of middle eastern descent who was shot during the Lower Love gas station robbery on November 22 on St. Croix, has died of his injuries, police spokesperson Melody Rames revealed Wednesday.
The business owner died on November 29, just after 8 p.m., according to new information released by the Major Crimes Detectives. The deceased has been identified as 69-year-old Salah Dawod.
At the time of the robbery, Deputy Police Chief Arthur Hector, Sr. said two men entered the service station, threatened the business owner and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, the suspects shot the owner and fled the scene. The injured victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for care.
Police apprehend one of the two suspects on the night of the robbery, and are still searching for the second gunman. They have not confirmed if the suspect on the loose got away with money.
The Lower Love incident was the second armed robbery and shooting in St. Croix on Nov. 22, happening only hours after a shootout in Sunny Isle, where police shot two armed suspects who were attempting to rob the Cleopatra Gift Shop. There were four suspects involved in the Sunny Isle incident, including three minors–the youngest being 14-years-old–and one adult. All of the suspects in that case were apprehended by police.
The Major Crime and Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives continue to investigate the Lower Love robbery and shooting death case.
