Video: Plaskett Responds To Obama’s State of the Union Address

Politics / Videos / Virgin Islands / January 21, 2015

In a live web cast on Tuesday night, Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett responded to President Barack Obama’s Jan. 20 State of the Union Address, applauding the second-term president for gains made throughout his presidency and highlighting some of the key points of his speech.

However, with the state of the territory currently not mirroring the strides realized on the U.S. mainland, Plaskett said it remains “incumbent on us to push that agenda forward, and to to really make the United States aware that that is in fact the case.”

She added: “Our utility costs are the highest in the nation [at] 52 cents per kilowatt, our unemployment is more than twice the national average, and I plan on working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that the U.S. Virgin Islands is included in the infrastructure investments, the job creations, and many of the other programs that were listed.”

Plaskett’s full response can be seen in the video posted below:

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
