VIWMA Sewer Drainage Advisory

Community Center / Government / News / Virgin Islands / February 16, 2015

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is advising residents that due to recent heavy rainfalls, the sewer collection system has been experiencing a large inflow of storm water. This has resulted in overflows in certain areas and manhole covers to pop up.

Until the rains and the run-off subside, VIWMA officials say they are expecting the sewer collection system to continue to be impacted.

On St. Thomas, the Bovoni Landfill has also been impacted and the road leading to the active portion of the landfill that is accepting waste has had to close intermittently to ensure the safety of the staff and public.

Residents are asked to report any wastewater overflows to VIWMA at (340) 715-9199 on St. Thomas; (340) 712-4999 on St. Croix and (340) 774-2141 on St. John.
