St. Croix Firefighter Examinations Are May 11-15

Government / News / Virgin Islands / February 23, 2015

Acting Director of the Division of Personnel Milton E. Potter has announced the entrance examinations for the rank of firefighter in the St. Croix District will take place May 11-15.

In order to qualify for the test, candidates must possess a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate. Candidates must also have or be able to qualify for a motor vehicle operator’s license. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status are also required and candidates must be 18 or older at the time of hire.

Furthermore, candidates must successfully complete national registry EMT certification and Firefighter-I training upon completion of new-recruit training within 18 months of employment; have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years; and have the ability to meet department physical standards.

The signup period runs from March 2-13. A study preparation manual can be picked up April 9-10.

Personnel requires that all candidates signup and submit a complete application package at the St. Croix office by close of business on Friday, March 13. The department is also advising candidates to pick-up the study preparation manual on either of the established dates in order to maximize the preparation time for the examination.

When collecting the study manual package, a valid form of identification is required, and candidates who submitted applications in the past are required to complete an interest form to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing address to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice.

Personnel has waved the examination for applicants who earned a degree in police science, fire science, criminal justice, criminology, forensic science, fire prevention, accounting, public administration and/or business administration and psychology. However, applicants are still required to qualify for the other established criteria.

Applications are available at the Division of Personnel on St. Croix, located at 3009 Orange Grove Shopping Center, Bays #6-8, Christiansted or through the department’s website, here.

For more information, contact Chemyne Ible-John at (340) 718-8588.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
