The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), through its Summer Enrichment Scholarships program, is now accepting applications from Virgin Islands students who are applying for on- or off-island summer programs.
The maximum award amount is $2,500.
In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a school in the U.S. Virgin Islands and demonstrate financial need.
According to the organization, unrestricted scholarship funds are provided through its CFVI Angels donors.
“Every year, CFVI receives an influx of letters and calls from students needing assistance to attend a quality summer program and it’s not easy to say no to that type of request, but we haven’t always had the funding or the donors to make that available,” CFVI President, Dee Baecher-Brown said. “This year, the CFVI Board decided we needed to find a way to tell these young people, yes.”
The scholarships are available to students of all ages through 11th grade. They will be awarded based on financial need and quality of program, with priority given to children currently in foster care and those attending a summer program for the first time.
Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through May 15.
Decisions will be announced individually to students, who are encouraged to apply for the scholarship before they are accepted into their selected summer program. However, CFVI will not disburse funds until proof of acceptance to the program is provided.
