ST. CROIX — The Mid-Island Rotary Club will be giving away thousands of dollars in cash and prizes and a brand new vehicle on May 20 at its annual raffle event to be held at Gertrude’s Restaurant, according to a press release the club issued on Saturday.
The prizes — a 2015 Jeep Patriot Sport SUV, along with cash prizes of $1,000 and $500 — will be awarded to Victoria Rosenberg, Linda De Caylla and Jasmine Soudatt, respectively.
Rosenberg, winner of the Jeep Patriot raffle, has decided to sell the vehicle and give the Rotary Club $6,500, while she keeps $10,000. The club expressed gratitude to Rosenberg for generous gift.
In addition to the raffle prizes, the Rotary Club will make a total donation of $10,000 in educational programming grants to local youth educational projects. A new electric car-racing project, based at the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) under the leadership of Joseph Schrader, will receive a $5,000 grant. The project, according to the mid-island club, will attract budding mechanics and race drivers.
The Educational Complex’s concert band, led by Kevre Hendricks, will receive a grant of $2,000; a scholarship worth $1,500 will be presented to AZ Academy by Kishma Williams; and $1,500 for a summer school travel program will be presented to the St. Joseph High School by Carmen Robles.
The event starts at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
