Mid-Island Rotary Club Sends Two Students To World Affairs Seminar

News / Virgin Islands / July 12, 2015

ST. CROIX — This Spring, Rotary Mid-Isle once again sent two youth leaders to the Rotary World Affairs Seminar held at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, according to a press release the organization issued on Saturday.

Roy Arcamo and Thuraia Sargeant, both from Educational Complex, represented the island at the event.

The World Affairs Seminar topic this year was Global Energy, a sector with global relevance. The seminar is Rotary International-sponsored project and brings together high school junior and senior students from all over the world, and features speakers and workshop leaders of prominence.

The event is also a week-long educational and social interaction experience that has been of life-changing importance to many participants. Rotary Mid-Isle has sponsored at least two students annually since the beginning of this century. The event has contributed to international friendships for numerous young Crucians.

Selection by the Rotary committee is not solely based on academic performance, but several former World Affairs students have gone on to hold important positions in the community, according to the release.

About Rotary

The organization connects 1.2 million members of more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work impacts lives at both the local and international levels — from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world.
