ST. THOMAS — On Thursday afternoon Governor Kenneth Mapp met with members of the New York City Council and New York labor leaders that were visiting the territory, according to a press release Government House issued this morning.
Councilman Andy King organized this trip as a fact-finding venture. King also has council members with family in the territory.
“I am fully vested in helping the territory in any way that I can in my position. I am an active member of the Congressional Black Caucus and I am willing to support Governor Mapp and his efforts in my capacity,” King said.
The governor, for his part, was happy to host the delegation.
“I was happy to receive the delegation from New York. We had a wonderful and productive conversation and I look forward to working with them in the future,” Mapp said.
The delegation included: Bronx County Deputy Borough- President Aurelia Greene; Bronx Democratic Chair Assembly member Marcos Crespo — the Youngest County Chair in NY; Assembly member Victor Pichardo; Council member Vanessa Gibson; Council member Darlene Mealy; Legislative Director for Council member Inez Barron -Indigo Washington (St. Croix Native); andCo-Chair of the Black Latino and Asian Caucus Council member Andy King.
Labor leaders present were: District Council 37 Local 372- President Shaun D. Francois; District Council 37 Local 371 President Anthony Wells; 1199 SEIU Executive Vice-President Neva Shillingford-King; Council of Supervisors and Administrators Political Director Herman Merritt; District Council 37 Local 371 Political Director Michelle Akoupong; and District Council 37 Local 372 Political Director Jaquelin Febrillet.
