ST. THOMAS — Speaking at a town hall meeting for residents of Anna’s Retreat, St. Thomas, a team of senior U.S. Virgin Islands government officials, led by Governor Kenneth Mapp and Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter, gave a comprehensive update on the territory’s recovery efforts to a standing room-only crowd at the Joseph Gomez Elementary School this week, Government House has announced.
Greater employment opportunities, the extension of benefits for displaced workers, assistance for farmers through the Community Development Block Grant Program, the $10.3 million the Mapp/Potter administration had worked to secure for fisheries in the Virgin Islands, and the success of the post-hurricane roofing program were among the achievements the territory’s chief executive highlighted, Government House said.
According to the release, joining Mr. Mapp and Mr. Potter were Public Works Commissioner Nelson Petty, Jr., who described roadway projects planned for Anna’s Hope. Robert Graham of the VI Housing Authority and Daryl Griffith of the VI Housing Finance Authority presented an overview of new housing opportunities throughout the territory.
The governor’s team also fielded questions on issues ranging from the fines being imposed for improper disposal of large appliances to the extension of potable water service and plans to improve the Alvin McBean Complex, Government House said.
