ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp will travel out of the territory on Tuesday for four stops that will take the governor to Washington, D.C., Colorado, Atlanta, Georgia and West Virginia, according to a press release Government House issued late Monday.
While in D.C., the governor will meet with US Department of Energy Secretary, Dr. Ernest Moniz. Following the meeting, Mapp will travel to and tour the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, at the invitation of the Secretary of Energy.
Following the workshops at the NREL lab in Colorado, the territory’s leader will travel to Atlanta for meetings and several media promotional events with Acting Dept. of Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty. Media interviews are scheduled with CNN and various media outlets, according to the release.
Upon completion of the meetings in Atlanta, Mapp will travel to West Virginia to attend the summer meeting of the National Governors Association. The agenda for the NGA meeting includes sessions centered on economic and workforce development; natural resource management; health and human services; economic development and homeland security issues.
While the governor is away, Acting Finance Commissioner Valdamier Collens will serve the territory as governor on July 14 and 15. Collens will relinquish his authority when Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter returns to the territory on July 15. Mapp will return on July 26.
