ST. CROIX — VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson via press release has made known that a man was shot multiple times in various parts of his body near the Candido Guadeloupe Housing Community.
According to Jackson, at about 3:05 p.m. today, the 911 emergency call center received notification of a shooting incident at the aforementioned housing community.
Officers responding to the call met with the victim — a 23-year-old man — who sustained gunshot wounds to his right chest and left leg.
Preliminary information provided by the VIPD indicates that the victim, along with several other individuals, were in a shanty near the housing community when a suspect walked out of the shortcut leading to the Fredensburg Village and began firing shots towards the shanty.
The suspect then fled the area on foot.
After realizing that he was shot, ambulance was summoned to the scene and the victim was subsequently transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s emergency room for treatment.
A person of interest has been identified, Jackson said, and detectives are continuing their investigation into the matter.
