ST. CROIX — The VIPD has announced the arrest of 31-year-old Luis Raul Carino after the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Task Force executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced on Tuesday.
During the execution of the search warrant, police discovered an AK-47 Assault Rifle, and a 9mm Pistol, according to Jackson. Multiple rounds of ammunition were also discovered during the search and warrant execution.
Carino’s arrest was the 28th arrest here for unauthorized gun possession and the 54th weapon confiscated, Jackson said.
Unable to post bail of $50,000, Carino was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
Correction: July 30, 2015
A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the VIPD had confiscated 28 weapons on St. Croix and 54 territory-wide since the beginning of the year. However, the numbers represent only St. Croix; not St. Thomas. The story has been updated to reflect the correct information.
