VITEMA Monitoring Low Pressure System With Potential Of Becoming Storm

Breaking News / Featured / News / Virgin Islands / August 17, 2015

The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA) is monitoring an area of low pressure off the Cape Verde Islands designated by the National Hurricane Center as Invest 96 L, according to a press release the government agency issued this morning.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. Special Weather Outlook, shower activity associated with an area of low pressure located several hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands continues to show signs of organization.  Environmental conditions appear conducive for development during the next few days, and a tropical depression will likely form by the middle of the week while the system moves westward or west-northwestward near 15 miles per hour.

“VITEMA is monitoring Invest 96 L and will provide updates as the system develops over the next few days,” said VITEMA Director Mona Barnes.

“I’m advising the public to also monitor the system and to take this opportunity to review preparedness measures for the hurricane season. Now is an opportune time to review your family disaster plan and to reassess your emergency supply kit so that in the event a weather system is approaching the territory, you’re ready,” she concluded.

VITEMA is also urging residents to stay informed by tuning in to local radio and television stations for weather updates or by monitoring NOAA weather radios.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
