ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth E. Mapp announced at 8 a.m. today that the curfew has been lifted for the St. Thomas-St. John district only, according to a VITEMA press release.
All roads in said district are clear for motor vehicle traffic, the release further stated.
The governor had previously declared a state of emergency for the entire territory, following directives from VITEMA and the Dept. of Public Works, who informed the governor that there were downed trees and WAPA poles across the territory that may work as hazards to motorists.
Governor Mapp is also directing all government employees in the St. Thomas-St. John district to report to work at 11:00 a.m. today.
In light of the governor’s decision to end the curfew in St. Thomas and St. John, Scotiabank and Firstbank have issued press releases making known that their branches will be open today to accommodate customers. Both banks’ branches on St. Croix remain closed.
- Scotia Bank: Open from 12:00 noon
- Firstbank: Open from 10:00 a.m.
The curfew remains in effect for St. Croix.
