Mapp Signs Contracts For Road Construction Territory-Wide

ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp signed several contracts on Wednesday for the Department of Public Works which will vastly improve road conditions for the territory on all three islands, according to a Government House press release.

On St. Croix, Mapp signed a contract with V.I. Paving for road work on Emancipation Drive from Hannah’s Rest signal light to Claude O. Markoe Elementary School.  V.I. Paving is expected to commence work on this project immediately.

On St. John, emergency roadway repairs will take place on Route 10, Centerline Road.  The damage to this road was a result of Tropical Storm Otto and has affected travel on the island since the then. Island Roads will commence work on said project immediately, the release stated.

Governor Mapp also signed a contract with Island Roads for the finalization of the Rothschild Francis “Market Square” Rehabilitation Project on St. Thomas. Residents have been waiting for the completion of this project and work is scheduled to begin immediately.

“These projects continue to serve as an example of my administration’s commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands, to rebuild our roads and improve our infrastructure” Mapp said.
