UPDATE: The Virgin Islands Police Department has canceled the pre-carnival Jump Up following a surge in gun violence today. Stories are here and here.

ORIGINAL STORY: ST. CROIX — Come Saturday, Christiansted will come alive with a flare of entertainment as local bands ready residents for upcoming festivities with a pre-warm up to the 2015-2016 Crucian Christmas Carnival.

To make appropriate room for the event and to prevent congestion, the VIPD has announced road closures and rerouting in the following areas:

  • Parking is prohibited along the entire Pre Warm Up J’ouvert route including the staging area at the Pueblo Supermarket – Estate Golden Rock
  • Parking is prohibited on King Street and Hospital Street

Motorists are urged to use available alternate routes until the duration of the event.

The police department apologizes for any inconvenience these restrictions may cause and wishes the community, visitors and J’ouvert participants a safe and enjoyable time.
