Frederiksted Library Reopens

Education / News / Virgin Islands / October 22, 2015

ST. CROIX — Commissioner Dawn Henry of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources announced on Wednesday that the Athalie M. Petersen Public Library in Frederiksted  reopened its doors on Monday October 19. The public facility will resume regular hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The department was able to perform some much-needed repairs and undertake a thorough cleaning of the facility during the closure, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, it was announced that nearly $1 million in grant funding had been released under the Office of Insular Affairs’ (OIA) Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Program to make infrastructure improvements at three public library facilities throughout the territory: the Athalie M. Petersen Library in Frederiksted, Florence Williams Library in Christiansted and the Elaine I. Sprauve Library in Cruz Bay, St. John.

The grant funds will provide for infrastructure renovations and technological upgrades which will improve and enhance the library environment for life-long learning. It is anticipated that the renovations and upgrades will commence in 2016, the release concluded.

For more information, contact the Athalie Petersen Public Library at 772-0315 or visit www.virginislandspubliclibraries.org.
