Man Found Dead With Multiple Gunshot Wounds At Halfpenny Beach Last Night (Update)

Breaking News / Featured / News / Top Stories / Virgin Islands / October 24, 2015

Update 2: In a press release issued this morning, police are now saying that they id’d the wrong person; stating that the man who died was 20-year-old Kimoy Lynch, and not Rasheem Edwards as previously reported. The VIPD says it apologizes for the misinformation.

Update 1: The homicide victim has been identified as Rasheem Edwards.

Original Story: ST. CROIX — A man was found shot to death with multiple gunshot wounds about his body at Halfpenny Beach on Friday night, VI Consortium learned through a police source. The incident was subsequently confirmed by VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson.

In a brief telephone interview with The Consortium this morning, Jackson said the 911 emergency call center received notification of the incident just after 10:00 p.m. last night, after receiving reports of a “disturbance” in the area. Police arrived on the scene and started to conduct a search, and found the dead man’s body in the vicinity of the beach but far away from a Beach Club to the east of Halfpenny.

The Consortium arrived on the scene about 7:50 a.m. today and met with police personnel who were searching for evidence, however they were not authorized to divulge any information to the media.

The deceased, Jackson said, has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
