ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp has appointed Merwin Potter to the position of the St. Thomas-Water Island administrator, after Lawrence Boschulte resigned earlier this week.
Mr. Boschulte stated in a letter to Randolph Knight, the administration’s chief of staff, that his experience was rewarding, although he gave no explanation as to why he gave up the job.
“The experience I have had as the administrator has been rewarding. It was a privilege to serve the people of this community through this administration,” Mr. Boschulte said.
As for Mr. Potter, he served as the director for the Virgin Island’s Fire Service from 2004-2006. Prior to that, he led a long history of public service in the VIFS as a firefighter working his way up through the ranks over the course of 20 years, to the position of fire chief for the St. Thomas and St. John District, according to the release.
And Mr. Potter has received many commendations and certifications from the USCG, US Department of Justice, Auburn University, National Weather Service and FEMA. His knowledge and experience in emergency and community management will complement the position of administrator, the release further stated.
“I am thankful for Mr. Potter’s willingness to serve in this capacity,” Mr. Mapp said.
