ST. CROIX — Two men brandishing guns held up a taxi driver at gunpoint early afternoon on Monday, stealing all the money he earned for that day, VIPD Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman has announced.
According to Ms. Freeman, at about 12:35 p.m. on Monday, a male individual reported to officers at the Wilbur Francis Command located in Mars Hill, that he had been robbed.
According to the victim, while operating his taxi bus, he collected two male passengers on his way to downtown Frederiksted. The men then motioned for the driver to stop near the Ludvig Harrigan Housing Community, and one requested that he provide change for a twenty dollar bill. But as the taxi operator reached into his pocket to retrieve the change, both men brandished guns and demanded that he turnover all of his cash. One of the suspects pointed his gun at the taxi operator’s head and both men threatened to shoot him if he didn’t give them all of the money he had, according to Ms. Freeman.
The taxi bus driver gave the two men his day’s proceeds (an undetermined amount of cash) and the pair exited the vehicle and ran away, leaving the shaken man unharmed.
According to the victim, one man was of a dark complexion, while the other was light-skinned.
Police are asking anyone with information concerning this incident to call 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
