ST. CROIX — The Bureau of Internal Revenue here was the scene of property damage and a stolen vehicle, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced by way of press release on Tuesday.
Mr. Jackson, citing a preliminary police report, said that on Friday, December 18, the 911 emergency call center notified officers of property damage at BIR.
Responding officers reported to the scene and met with BIR’s chief financial officer, who stated that the facility’s store room manager had informed her that morning that the electric fence on the property had been damaged. Investigating officers said it appeared that the fence had been taken off its rail track, was slightly bent outwards and the chain link had been seemingly cut large enough that a vehicle could have been driven through the space.
According to Mr. Jackson, officers took all of the information provided and began to conduct an investigation into the matter. They were later dispatched back to the BIR by the 911 emergency Call center at 12:27 p.m., regarding a stolen vehicle incident
An employee with the Office of the Lt. Governor told the officers that on Thursday, December 17, she parked the vehicle, a white, 2003 Chevy Trailblazer (LGO-6) at BIR’s parking lot at 2:45 p.m. However, when she returned the vehicle was no longer there.
Police have begun their investigation into the matter and are asking that anyone with information concerning this incident to contact 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477, the release concluded.
