ST. CROIX — Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP, a financial consulting firm based here, is sponsoring Team Cane Bay VI in the Seventh Annual Scenic 50 Race to being held today, press release the company issued on Friday revealed.

According to the release, the race goes from sea level up to 900 feet elevation, beginning in Christiansted and going to Frederiksted and back.

Cane Bay Partners says it’s proud to put its support behind team members Colleen Chin, Esther Ellis, Robin Seila and Julie Sommer, and to be part of such a challenging and uplifting event on the island of St. Croix.

“We are all excited to participate in what is one of the most challenging ultra-running events in the circuit. The hills and the heat in St. Croix make for a brutal run, but the scenery and the sense of accomplishment are unbeatable,” Cane Bay VI team member Julie Sommer said. “We hope to inspire other runners to take on the challenge, and are ourselves inspired by the amazing runners doing the entire event. Bridget and Mike Klein, this year’s race directors and the current record holders for the course, are unbelievable athletes!”

The course goes from Christiansted to Frederiksted and back east to finish up on Mermaid Beach at The Buccaneer Hotel. The Scenic 50 includes an individual 50-mile run, a four leg 50-mile team relay and an individual 50-kilometer run. Registration took place between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23. On Sunday, the 50 mile individual and team relay races began at 5:00 a.m. and the 50 km race at 7:00 a.m. There will be an awards breakfast at The Buccaneer Monday at 7:30 a.m.

“Sporting events such as the Scenic 50 race provide a significant boon for St. Croix, providing residents with an opportunity to challenge themselves while exploring the island,” Cane Bay Partners Co-CEO David Johnson said. The race also invites visitors to see some of our most scenic destinations while engaging in healthy competition. We wish all the participants the best of luck.”

The release adds that Cane Bay Partners is committed to supporting enriching sporting activities, and supports the Captain Morgan Ironman 70.3, the Roseway World Ocean School, the Golden Hook Fishing Club, the Virgin Islands Bowling Federation, St. Croix Dolphins, the St. Croix Foundation VIPD Golf Tournament, the Special Olympics, the Police Athletic League, Frederiksted Community Boating and others, aside from the Scenic 50.
