ST. CROIX — A 67-year-old woman who was on a scuba diving excursion with her husband and a friend on Monday morning, died after making it back to surface, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this morning.
According to Mr. Jackson, on Monday at 11:29 a.m., the 911 emergency call center received a call requesting an ambulance for an unresponsive woman, who was out scuba diving.
Mr. Jackson said a second notification was received by the call center from the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center at 1:12 p.m. requesting police assistance because the victim had succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary information gathered by responding officers and detectives show that the victim had been part of a scuba diving excursion at Salt River, accompanied by her husband and a friend. Having returned to the surface after their dive, the victim began to complain of experiencing difficulty in breathing, collapsed and fell unconscious.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered while the call was placed to the emergency call center. The victim subsequently passed away at the JFL and was identified as Kathleen Wright of California.
