ST. CROIX — Police on Wednesday arrested Ala Zatar, above, on charges of animal abuse, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this afternoon.

According to Ms. Freeman, an arrest warrant was executed to the rear of Bienvenidos Mini Mart where Mr. Zatar was taken into custody and charged with two counts of animal abuse in the first degree and one count of disturbance of the peace.

Ms. Freeman said that on Friday, January 01, Mr. Zatar struck two dogs with a machete causing severe injuries about the dogs’ bodies. The owner of the dogs positively identified Mr. Zatar as the individual who struck his animals with a machete in his presence.

Mr. Zatar was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections facility in Golden Grove pending his advise-of-rights hearing, after he failed to make bail of $15,000.
