Man From Dominica Found Dead In St. Thomas In Locked SUV With Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Breaking News / Crime / News / Virgin Islands / April 11, 2016

ST. THOMAS — A man was found dead inside an SUV in Anna’s Retreat here on Saturday afternoon around 6:00 p.m., in what Police Commissioner Delroy Richards is calling a “mystery death,” as the victim was found with two gunshot wounds to his body — one in the chest and another in the head — but the vehicle had no damage.

“Obviously there was more than one person in the vehicle, but what transpired is a mystery at this point,” Mr. Richards told The Consortium this morning. He said police officers were dispatched after the force’s ShotSpotter equipment detected three gunshots, and upon arrival on the scene, they found the victim sitting lifeless inside the locked vehicle.

The victim was later identified by next of kin as Joseph duCreay, 19, from the island of Dominica.

The VIPD is asking anyone with information concerning this incident to call the Major Crimes Unit at 340-642-8449, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
