Mapp Calls Tuesday Press Conference To Talk Gov’t Salary Increases And Economic Development Initiatives

ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp will host a press conference at Government House here today at 10:00 a.m., where he will discuss salary increases for government employees, as well as economic development initiatives, according to a press release Government House issued late Monday.

The event is expected to be broadcast live on several radio stations to include 1620 AM, 107.9 FM, 970 AM and 93.5 FM.

Last Tuesday, the Mapp administration issued a press release making known that some government employees would see an increase in their checks by last Wednesday.

“I am elated to see these raises going into effect,” Division of Personnel Director Milton Potter said. “The ones who receive their raises this week will see an even larger check in two weeks.” Mr. Potter said that a group of employees represented by Our Virgin Islands Labor Union also received a $1,000 stipend last week, as the administration worked to fulfill contractual obligations and bring them up to step. However, it remains unclear whether the aforementioned union had to give up retroactive pay owed to its members before receiving their increases.

The Consortium will be present at the press conference.
