Gittens Praises President Clinton’s Visit To St. Croix; Announces Support For Hillary Clinton

News / Politics / Virgin Islands / May 17, 2016

ST. CROIX — Following the short visit of former President Bill Clinton to this island for a campaign event at the Island Center for the Performing arts on Monday, two-term Democrat Senator Kenneth Gittens said he was humbled to welcome the president here, and announced his support for Hillary Clinton as president of the United States.

Mr. Gittens’ full statement is below.

“It was really a great opportunity to see former president Clinton in the territory again but specifically on St. Croix. I’m humbled to have been able to welcome the good former president to our shores once again. As a democrat I’m proud for the opportunity to support Hillary Clinton in her run for the White House.

“I believe the opportunity for a woman to head our country is knocking at the door and this is the time to open. We’ve seen an African American President in President Barrack Obama turn things around for the better, and now it’s time for a woman.

“I believe in her vision and believe that she can continue to build on the things President Obama has put in place. Some may say we are wasting our time with a rally because we can’t vote here in territory, but to have the distinguished honor of having Bill Clinton come here to discuss strategies of the campaign and how we can help, solidifies their long-standing relationship with the territory and is a great indication of bigger things to come.”
