ST. CROIX — Virgin Islands Police Department Commissioner Delory Richards this morning told The Consortium that the V.I.P.D. has “solid leads” on a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday in Frederiksted at 10:47 p.m.
“We have some solid leads on that [incident]. It’s only a matter of time before we put everything together in an affidavit and move to get an arrest warrant,” Mr. Richards said.
There were two separate shooting incidents that occurred on Thursday involving the same victim, according to Mr. Richards: one in the morning in Estate Smithfield and the other during the night in Estate Concordia, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte. A conflicting police report was issued on Friday, stating that the victim had reported two different locations for the same incident, when in fact the victim reported two separate shooting incidents that occurred on Thursday morning and night, where he says he was the target of the suspect (s).
The victim stated that he was outside in the area of Estate Concordia on Thursday night when suspects traveling in a speeding white truck began firing shots towards him. He sustained gunshot wounds to his right calf that caused his leg to break.
Although Mr. Richards said police have solid leads, the force is also asking anyone with additional information to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 / 712-6037, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
