UVI Offering Summer Marine Programs; Intro to Grant Writing Course

The University of the Virgin Island’s Center for Marine and Environmental Studies VIMAS Program is facilitating a four-week marine science summer program for students in grades 7-12 starting on July 11, and ending August 5, U.V.I. has announced.

This program will take place at the MacLean Marine Science Center on UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. Students will be exposed to swimming, fish identification, and science research.

Interested persons can access the registration via http://vimas.uvi.edu. The cost of the entire program is $150, which includes catered lunches as well as some of the various field trips on St. Thomas and St. John. Registration ends on June 30. Additionally, the Friends of the VI National Park will be facilitating three marine science summer camps which are free for locals aged between 7 to 17. The first camp starts on July 11, and you can register at http://www.islands.org/viers. These camps are facilitated over the course of a week and are conducted several times within the month of July. For more information, you can contact Aysa Simons at (340) 776-6721. There is a $30 registration fee, which is refundable upon completion of the camp.

In other U.V.I. news, individuals interested in learning the ins and outs of the grant writing process are urged to register early for the upcoming course – Introduction to Grant Writing.

The course will be held 6 – 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays starting July 25, 2016. Sessions will be held at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus. The course will provide participants with practical information to successfully construct and complete a grant proposal. Topics will include: types of grants and funding; proposal basics; leveraging resources; budget construction; and much more.

The course is open to individuals from non-profit organizations, schools, government agencies and other public entities. Space in the course is limited and registrations will not be accepted after July 13, 2016.
