ST. THOMAS — V.I.P.D. officers on Friday discovered what was described as “large amounts” of cocaine and marijuana after responding to a report of gunshots fired in the vicinity of Nadir, according to Glen Dratte, the force’s public information officer.
Police responded to the incident at about 10:00 a.m. near the Bridge to Nowhere in Nadir, and conducted an inspection of the roadway leading to an animal shelter. Upon inspection, the officers discovered two firearms and large quantities of cocaine and marijuana, according to Mr. Dratte.
While conducting the investigation, officers had observed a suspicious individual identified as James Lettsome, 39, of Estate Bovoni, who was in the area. They inspected Mr. Lettsome’s vehicle and discovered two shotgun rounds, three .40 caliber rounds and a fully loaded magazine which contained 31 rounds. According to Mr. Dratte, police did not link Mr. Lettsome to the stash of marijuana, cocaine and the two firearms recovered near the Bridge to Nowhere.
Mr. Lettsome was placed under arrest at 2:0 p.m. the same day after failing to make bail of $10,000.
