Mapp Heads To Florida On Vacation

News / Virgin Islands / July 6, 2016

ST. CROIX — Governor Kenneth Mapp has left the territory for some vacation time in the state of Florida, Government House has announced. The administration’s communications director, Cherie Munchez, said the governor would be out until July 16.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter traveled out of the territory to attend the National Lieutenant Governors Association 2016 Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday. While there, Mr. Potter will be one of the lead members in a round table discussion on “Tourism Brands & Budgets.” This will address issues on how states and territories develop and fund tourism marketing, brands, and/or events, allowing for identification of strengths, weaknesses, and exchange of best practices, according to a press release Mr. Potter’s office issued Tuesday.

While the governor and lieutenant governor are out, Finance Commissioner Valdamier Collens will serve as governor and Senate President Neville James as lieutenant governor. Once Mr. Potter returns on July 10, he will replace Mr. Collens as acting governor. Mr. James will retain his lieutenant governor status until the return on of the governor on July 16, according to Government House.
