ST. THOMAS — A man told police he was shot this morning while walking with his wife heading westward across the street from the 1-800 Sports Bar in the area of Contant, according to V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman.

According to Ms. Freeman, at approximately 8:00 a.m. today, the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center emergency room regarding a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival to the hospital, contact was made with the victim, identified as Jay Weeks, who stated that while walking with his wife he heard a single gunshot fired. Mr. Weeks said he then realized that he had been shot and began to run for his life. He added that while looking in the direction where the gunshot originated, he saw a black male fleeing the area.

Mr. Weeks sustained a single gunshot wound to his right wrist and was treated by the emergency room doctor on duty for his injury and later released.

Meanwhile in St. Croix, a man was shot in Estate Glynn on Wednesday evening by an unknown assailant, sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to Glen Dratte, the V.I.P.D.’s public information officer.

Mr. Dratte said the victim, a 44-year-old black male, told police that he was with some friends hanging out at about 6:30 p.m. when an unknown male approached him and started discharging shots. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital; he remains in serious but stable condition.

Both incidents are under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 and 5557.
