ST. CROIX — A man lost his life in a car accident that occurred near the Centerline Bakery in Williams Delight and the old Brow Soda factory Sunday night, V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richard confirmed to this publication this morning.
According to Mr. Richards, the incident occurred after 10:00 p.m., and unfortunately involved his nephew, who died on the spot.
The victim, whose name was not released, was driving from east to west, most likely heading home to Williams Delight, where he resided, according to Mr. Richards. But the victim might have fallen asleep at the wheel, the police commissioner said, because he veered to the right side of the road and ran into an oncoming old Ford F-150 truck; slammed into a tree and subsequently died.
Police had cordoned off Centerline Road from the Mountain Gas Station all the way to the Williams Delight stoplights. An ambulance, paramedics and police officers could be seen in the distance investigating the accident.
The commissioner said the accident was so severe that St. Croix rescue was called to the scene to remove the victim’s body from the vehicle.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
